During a game that deserved to be a Champions League tie, Man United managed to overcome FC Barcelona 2-1. Here are our player ratings.
David de Gea – Made a smart save to deny Kounde from a header in the second 45. Was unlucky not to stop the penalty. 6/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Preferred to Diogo Dalot and justified his place. Was United’s player who was most involved in the first 45 minutes. Defended well. 6/10
Raphael Varane – Nothing short of sublime. Won every header and tackle. Also good with the ball at feet. So calm throughout. 9/10
Lisandro Martinez – Complemented his fellow centre-half beautifully. Defended on the front foot and completely nullified Lewandowski. 9/10
Luke Shaw – Superb defensively. Not his finest hour going forward, though the United threat largely came down the other side. 7/10
Casemiro – Stunning. Made a huge sliding tackle to prevent Barca from going 2-0 up. His range of passing was also excellent. 8/10
Fred – His best game in a United shirt? From minute one, the Brazilian was absolutely everywhere. He won possession back on countless occasions. Stunning. 9/10
Bruno Fernandes – Gave away a cheap penalty, but made up for it with his attacking play after half-time. Picked up an assist for Fred’s goal and won the ball back for Antony’s winner. 8/10
Jadon Sancho – Drifted in and out of the match in that number 10 position. It didn’t work on this occasion. 5/10
Marcus Rashford – Had a few decent runs that caused the Barca back line problems, though his goalscoring run comes to an end. Hopefully, he’s fit enough for Sunday… 5/10
Wout Weghorst – Ran himself into the ground, though didn’t really get many scoring opportunities. 5/10
Subs:
Antony – Scored the winner with a lovely finish. Helped change the game.
Diogo Dalot – Brought more quality in his delivery.
Alejandro Garnacho – Caused all sorts of problems down that left-hand side with his sheer speed.
Scott McTominay – Helped see the game out.
