The Reds made it four games unbeaten on tour, with our player ratings from MUFC vs Aston Villa now in.
David de Gea – Hardly had a save to make in the first 45. Couldn’t do anything about Bailey’s lovely goal in the second half. Made a top-class save to deny Bailey a second. 6/10
Diogo Dalot – Worked tirelessly. Confident when in possession. Didn’t get the opportunity to deliver many balls into the area. 5/10
Victor Lindelof – Defended well in tough conditions. Always tried to be positive with the ball at feet. Perhaps could’ve got a bit tighter to Bailey for his goal. 6/10
Harry Maguire – Cut out several Villa passes and marshalled the back line nicely. Tested Martinez in the Villa goal early on. Played high up the pitch. Made a crucial block to deny Bailey from close range. 7/10
Luke Shaw – Showed great endeavour to get forward for the opener. Crossed it in nicely for Sancho who stuck it away. Perhaps the Tyrell Malacia signing has made him push that little bit harder. Caught out of position for the Bailey goal. 6/10
Fred – Cut out many loose passes. Kept it simple with the ball at his feet. Did play one insane over-the-top pass to Sancho in the build-up to the second. Worked tirelessly. 7/10
Donny van de Beek – Again pretty pedestrian. Tried to play too safe. Just not up to standard. 3/10
Bruno Fernandes – Was always looking to pick those defence-splitting passes. Involved in our opening goal and was at the heart of everything positive about our play. Also got stuck in defensively. 6/10
Jadon Sancho – Scored his third goal of the tour with a lovely volley. He’s looking confident down that right-hand side. Played the ball into the box for the second. 7/10
Marcus Rashford – Involved in the opener. Scored the second via a massive ricochet. 6/10
Anthony Martial – His quietest game thus far, though the Frenchman was rather isolated up top. Did lead the press. 4/10
Subs:
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Had a mixed half-hour as the pitch was boggy down his side.
Alex Telles – Deployed as a defensive midfielder. He did ok.
Raphael Varane – Won a few important headers as the Villa pressure mounted.
Eric Bailly – A relatively quiet half-hour or so for the Ivorian.
Tyrell Malacia – Very lively. Tried to get forward where possible.
James Garner – Nice to see him out there. Did well defensively.
Zidane Iqbal – Continued to look super calm and composed.
Hannibal – Flew into a couple of tackles early.
Tahith Chong – Always willing to receive the ball and tried to make things happen.
Anthony Elanga – Pretty quiet.
