Our final Man United player ratings of the season is here, though it makes for pretty grim reading following our game vs Villareal…
David de Gea – Didn’t have an awful lot to do during the game, but his poor penalty saving record continues. None stopped in his last 36 faced. I’m not bothered about his miss, but I’d hope he’d be able to save at least one or two last night. 3/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – One of two United performers who can hold his head high. He defended with diligence and joined in on the attack where possible. 6/10
Eric Bailly – Hit and miss. Made some key headers and tackles but also gave us a few scary moments. The Ivorian was rash at times, too. 4/10
Victor Lindelof – Partly at fault for their goal as was too weak when dealing with a set piece. Why change the habit of a lifetime in a major final, huh…? 3/10
Luke Shaw – Uncharacteristically poor. Technically, the Villareal goalscorer was his man. Didn’t do enough in an attacking capacity, either. 3/10
Scott McTominay – United’s best player and it wasn’t even close. Wore his heart on his sleeve, made marauding runs forward and tried to make things happen. Didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. 7/10
Paul Pogba – Deployed in midfield and started pretty well. He didn’t do enough in the second 45, though. 4/10
Bruno Fernandes – Quiet, way too quiet. I get it, there was very little space in midfield, but you expect more from your chief playmaker and captain on the night. 3/10
Mason Greenwood – Did ok. Played some lovely balls into the box in the first 45 but faded as the game wore on. 4/10
Marcus Rashford – The worst United player on the night. Just gave it away constantly and didn’t really threaten at all. 2/10
Edinson Cavani – Worked his socks off for 120 minutes. Won back so many loose balls and scored the United goal with an instinctive finish. 6/10
Subs:
Fred – Did ok.
Daniel James – Not enough time to mark.
Axel Tuanzebe – Scored his penalty.
Juan Mata – Brought on for a penalty, scored.
Alex Telles – Brought on for a penalty, scored.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – Disatrous. Got his tactics all wrong. Made his subs too late and refused to make any in-game tweaks to try and turn the tide in our favour. 2/10
