Man United Player Ratings vs Boro: Lingard stars but defenders struggle

David de Gea – Had a fairly quiet afternoon. Couldn’t do anything about the goal and made a smart stop to prevent Gaston Ramirez from scoring. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – Scored the goal that killed the game and his all-round display was very solid. My Player of the Season so far. 8/10

Chris Smalling – Really poor. His part in the Middlesbrough goal was just tragic. He really gifted them a way back into the game. 2/10

Eric Bailly – I don’t know what to make of his display. He looked very shaky on occasion, whereas others he just wasn’t afraid to get rid. 4/10

Phil Jones – A mixed bag. As we know, he isn’t afraid to put his body on the line, but his positioning was wayward on occasion. 5/10

Ashley Young – Once again, put in a very underrated performance. His cross to Fellaini was inch-perfect and he defended diligently. 6/10

Marouane Fellaini – Excellent performance throughout and it all started with his header that got United going. More of the same please, Marouane! 7/10

Michael Carrick – Nice to see him back in the team and he did well. 6/10

Juan Mata – Quiet. Couldn’t really get on the ball and influence things, perhaps the system didn’t suit him. 5/10

Jesse Lingard – What a screamer he scored today. To be fair to him, he was absolutely brilliant for the most part and some of the runs he made were superb. Man of the Match. 8/10

Marcus Rashford – Very lively and really stretched the Boro back four. Should have scored at least once, but a really positive performance. 6/10

Subs:

Marcos Rojo – Helped out defensively. Calmed things back there.

Anthony Martial – Fairly quiet when he came on, but United were up against it.

Matteo Darmian – Not enough time to mark.
