Man United are looking to battle it out with Chelsea to sign Joules Kounde from Sevilla.
The Ralf Rangnick era has begun, albeit only a six-month one. The German has been given somewhat a blessing in disguise, with Covid-19 meaning two of our games have been cancelled. That gives our manager more time to implement his tactics and ideas.
Our new boss will also have a rough plan in mind in terms of what positions he wants to strengthen in. Well, it seems as though centre-back is still being eyed.
According to AS, United are prepared to challenge fellow Premier League club Chelsea, for the signature of the top-class 23-year-old defender, Joules Kounde.
Kounde has emerged as really hot property over the last twelve months or so, and it’s no surprise to see our Red Devils showing an interest in the France international.
Obviously, Raphael Varane is amongst the first names on the team-sheet when fit and healthy, so why not try and link up Rapha with his international teammate, Kounde?
Outside of Varane, our central defenders are incredibly hit and miss. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are never fit, while Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof continue to be inconsistent. We need to start discovering a central defensive partnership that we can build our team around.
Varane and Kounde know each other already and it does feel like a pairing filled with potential and possibility. I’d guess a January move is completely out of the question, though, so we’d have to wait until summer. At which point, Rangnick is likely to not even be in charge of the team anymore, so it will certainly be interesting to see how this one plays out.
