Man United prepared to take ‘huge hit’ on Antony to sell him this summer

Man United are ready to cut their losses on Antony, with the Reds prepared to take a financial loss to get rid of the Brazilian.

Manchester United have made some shocking signings during the Glazer regime. The club have been far too willing to waste money on sub-par players, both in terms of transfer fee paid out and their weekly wages.

Erik ten Hag has also fallen foul of this bug. It was his decision to bring in Brazilian Antony in a deal worth in excess of £80m. He was never worth that, despite showing signs of promise during his debut season.

His second campaign in Manchester has been nothing short of disastrous. Off-field issues haven’t helped Antony, though his on-field performances cannot be defended. Simply put, he just hasn’t been good enough.

Now, rumours about his future are starting to swirl. The latest news on this front comes from talkSPORT, who state that United are prepared to take a ‘huge hit’ on the player in order to sell him this coming summer.

It’s no surprise to hear that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS view Antony as someone who is expendable, particularly as both Amad and Omari Forson were preferred last time out, at a moment when the squad is decimated by injury, too.

Check out talkSPORT’s X post on Antony here:

It’s all well and good saying they’re ready to move on from Antony, though actually doing it is going to be tough.

United will want to recoup as much of the £80m as possible. What will they deem a reasonable fee? I struggle to see a £20-30m offer coming in. That’s just how poor he’s been.

On top of that, only a handful of clubs will be able to afford his £200k-a-week salary (spotrac). Even fewer clubs will be prepared to even come close to that figure. Hence, I still believe Antony is going nowhere this summer. He’s more than happy to be drip-fed minutes while cashing in his massive paycheque every week. I absolutely don’t blame him for that, either.
