Man United have eyes on Jordan Pickford, as a potential David de Gea replacement.
David de Gea has hardly covered himself in glory during the vital moments of this season so far. The superstar Spaniard has been an outstanding servant for Manchester United Football Club, though all good things must come to an end.
Perhaps it makes sense to let the number one leave while his Old Trafford legendary status remains in tact. Though the search for a new shot-stopper is firmly underway.
Several players have already been linked with the role. Over the last 24 hours, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Jordan Pickford.
It’s The Mirror with the claim. They state that United are ‘preparing to move’ for the 29-year-old goalkeeper, in the event that De Gea leaves this summer.
It’s well documented that United are in talks with De Gea over a new contract for the Spaniard on reduced terms, though the fact he’s being asked to take a wage cut, coupled with no guarantees of a starting berth, are proving tough hurdles for the player to overcome.
United could absolutely look to move in a different direction, though moving on De Gea could prove to be tough. I don’t see many clubs being interested in his super high wages this summer…
I’m also not so sure about Pickford. I know he’s been a largely positive influence for Everton and England – though United is a different level entirely.
His slight stature, coupled with erratic temperament, means he’d also be liable to mistakes – just like De Gea. He’d also cost a pretty penny, particularly if Everton manage to avoid the drop this season.
