Manchester United’s squad is looking far stronger than it did twelve months ago. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a supreme job at clearing out the dead-wood and replacing them with quality.

However, the Norweigian’s work is only just beginning. Yes, the Old Trafford club are looking far better than they have done in the past, though there’s still much to do if United want to be competing at the business end of major tournaments again.

One player who has seemingly caught the Red Devils’ attention recently is Donny van de Beek, who currently plies his trade for Ajax.

Well, the Daily Star offered us an update on that brewing saga last night. Apparently, United are ‘preparing to sell’ bit-part player Andreas Pereira in order to fund a move for the classy Van de Beek.

Their report claims that the 23-year-old is likely to cost around £44million, which for a player of Van de Beek’s calibre seems incredibly cheap in this day and age.

Van de Beek would be the ideal player for the Solskjaer regime. Again, United are looking to get younger at a key position, while it makes sense to look towards life after Paul Pogba – whose future is still up in the air.

Don’t forget that United are still one midfielder light after losing both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, while only Bruno Fernandes has arrived. Factor in an ageing Nemanja Matic and suddenly midfield becomes a priority.
