Man United ‘pushing ahead’ to agree ‘early’ deal to sign Jarrad Branthwaite

Man United are looking to secure a deal to sign Jarrad Branthwaite nice and early.

Manchester United have struggled for any sort of consistency in defence this season. Injuries haven’t helped whatsoever. Erik ten Hag has barely been able to utilise Lisandro Martinez this season, while the likes of Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have also been troubled by injury issues.

Perhaps the first order of business for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS is to plug that hole with a centre-half who can show real consistency – preferably starting regularly alongside Licha.

The name who has been most-linked with filling that void is Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman has had an excellent season for Everton, showing his class in defending and quality on the ball.

Now Football Insider have provided an encouraging update on that front. They state that United are ‘pushing ahead’ to agree an ‘early’ deal to sign the 21-year-old defender ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are stated to be a long-term admirer of the centre-half, with INEOS looking to make Branthwaite their first big purchase of the new regime.

The club view Branthwaite as a ‘long term’ answer to their defensive woes, with the Everton man someone who could provide real longevity in a genuine position of need.

The issue here could be price tag. Branthwaite will likely cost in excess of £70m+, as Everton are looking likely to stave off relegation.

At the end of the day, I believe it could be worth the investment. Branthwaite is homegrown, improving and ready to make the step up to a club slightly higher up the table.
