Man United have apparently made an improved offer to sign Antony from Ajax.
So far, Erik ten Hag has brought in three signings to Manchester United. You get the feeling the Dutchman wants at least a couple more before the close of play.
With the Premier League starting in a week, time is running out to bring in these new players for the opening weekend. One man the Reds have seemingly been chasing all summer is Antony.
The Brazilian, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, is obviously highly thought of by United’s new gaffer. However, the Eredivisie club aren’t letting him leave without a fight.
It’s Goal Brasil with the latest update in the saga, with Sport Witness providing the translation. They state that United have raised their offer to sign the attacker this summer.
However, Ajax continue to play hardball. Apparently, the Reds have upped their bid from the initial £50m deal placed on the table, but they’re yet to meet Ajax’s figure of £67m. Obviously, the sides remain some way apart…
Antony’s departure is not in the plans of the Dutch side, who have already lost several key players during this window – including Lisandro Martinez to United.
Goal Brasil state that this saga could go ‘until the final days of the summer window’, meaning we could be in this one for the long haul – assuming the Reds don’t move on to other targets.
It looks like United will have to stump up the £67m or start looking elsewhere because Ajax’s stance simply hasn’t changed once.
Antony was impressive last season, scoring 12 goals and adding on 10 assists for his teammates as Ajax completed a double.
