Manchester United Football Club have always been brilliant when it comes to nurturing and developing young players.
Angel Gomes certainly falls into that category. His natural gift is clear for all to see, though he hasn’t been utilised that often this term. It’s somewhat surprising given how excellent he was on pre-season tour, though United now find themselves with a problem.
Gomes’ current deal expires this summer, leaving the Red Devils with a decision to make. Clearly, though, they’re doing their utmost to keep the young Englishman at Old Trafford.
According to The Metro, United have upped their contract offer to the talented 19-year-old, with £30,000-a-week now on the table for Gomes.
Talent-wise, Gomes is up there with the best in the business. However, it’s the physical attributes that’s the concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Standing at just 5’3, Gomes is much smaller in stature than pretty much everyone else in the Premier League. In some situations, that could be a problem…
Chelsea are seemingly keen on Gomes, so make no mistake about it, interest in the young man will be plentiful. If money isn’t his number one priority, United are going to have to give him minutes to prove his worth.
The situation has been made even more difficult by the addition of Bruno Fernandes. It’s going to be nigh-on impossible to displace the Portuguese from the team, so United definitely have to think about this one carefully…
