Well, they left it somewhat late, but our Red Devils got the job done in emphatic fashion. It’s time for our Man United player ratings vs Newcastle United.
David de Gea – Made some super saves to keep Newcastle at bay. Looks back to his brilliant best. 8/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Marked his 50th appearance for the club with a lovely goal. Pretty good defensively, too. 6/10
Victor Lindelof – Looked nervous at times and was beaten far too easily by Wilson for the Newcastle opener. 4/10
Harry Maguire – Drew United level with a super, super header. He deserved that performance tonight. What a relief it must be for our skipper. 7/10
Luke Shaw – Unfortunately, stuck it in his own net early on. However, from that point forward, I thought he had an excellent game. 6/10
Scott McTominay – Grew into the game and looked far more confident in the second 45. 5/10
Fred – Pretty steady. Worked hard and kept things simple. 5/10
Bruno Fernandes – What a player. Missed a penalty but didn’t let that keep him down. He’d score United’s exquisite second. Oh, he also picked up two assists. 8/10
Juan Mata – Brought some intelligence and creativity to the United attack. It was brilliant to see him flourish on his first start since February. 7/10
Daniel James – Had a good game. He looks far more suited to the left-wing, though when everyone is fit, the problem is he’ll find it hard to get minutes. 6/10
Marcus Rashford – Led the line wonderfully-well. Scored a cracking fourth goal to round it off and was instrumental in United’s second. Outstanding. 8/10
Subs:
Paul Pogba – Kept things ticking over.
Donny van de Beek – Played a vital role in United’s second. Absolutely should have started.
