Man United have reached an agreement in principle with Marseille, over the transfer of Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United Football Club have been pretty tragic when it comes to sanctioning player sales over the years. The situation only became worse as the Glazer tenure wore on.
However, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have now taken the reigns, with the new part-owners trying to take the Red Devils in a positive direction. What better message to send than a big-money departure?
It’s The Athletic’s David Ornstein with the report, so there’s absolutely no doubting the reliability of the story. According to his latest information, Mason Greenwood is on his way out.
United are said to have reached an agreement in principle with Marseille over this major sale, though there is still work to do to finalise the transfer.
Greenwood has to travel to France, complete a medical and sign on the dotted line, though this is described as a ‘major step forward’ for the transfer.
United and Marseille struck an agreement over the fee last week, which is thought to be in excess of £25m. Obviously, that now gives Erik ten Hag more wiggle room in the current transfer market.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that this chapter is closed. United needed a clean break away from Greenwood and that’s exactly what is looking like happening.
I truly do wish him and his family the best over in France. However, there was just too much water under the bridge for him here in Manchester. I do no doubt he’ll absolutely tear up Ligue 1 next season.
