Man United have apparently reached an agreement with FC Barcelona over the Frenkie de Jong signing. However, there’s a major problem…
This summer is going to be a huge one. Many new faces simply have to enter through the Old Trafford door if Manchester United are serious about competing for major honours.
One name consistently linked with a potential Reds switch over the next couple of months is Frenkie de Jong. It’s a link that makes sense given he’s worked with Erik ten Hag before, during their time together at Ajax.
United’s new manager is seemingly looking to surround himself with familiarity. And if there’s a real possibility that De Jong could move away from Barca this summer, then it makes sense to explore the transfer.
We’ve been given an update in that regard and it comes from media outlet Onze. While live on air, Spanish journalist Oriol Domenech made a bold claim about United and De Jong…
He stated that United ‘reach agreement’ with Barcelona over the singing of the 25-year-old. However, the player himself doesn’t want the move, with De Jong ‘not open’ to joining the club at this time.
Although De Jong remains in contact with Ten Hag, it’s pretty easy to assume that the Dutch midfielder has his sights set higher than playing for a United side without Champions League football on the table.
I suspect the fact that we’re in the Europa League this season will turn a lot of potential signings off. Not just De Jong.
Alas, that’s the hand we’ve been dealt. The United name is still a massive one and perhaps it’s better for us in the long run that we only bring in players who actually want to be here.
De Jong definitely sounds cautious about making the move to the red half of Manchester. If that’s the case, in our opinion, interest in the 25-year-old should end right away.
