Man United are close to agreeing a deal with FC Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong.
Well, we’ve been made to wait far longer than we’d have all liked for this move, but it looks as though Man United are nearing a deal to sign Frenkie de Jong.
It’s Sky Sports News with the scoop, who claim that United are ‘close’ to agreeing a deal to sign the Dutchman this month. As things stand, there is a ‘broad agreement’ in place between the Reds and FC Barcelona.
The initial fee is around the £56m mark, with various performance-related add-ons and bonuses to follow.
Discussions will continue over the finer details of the transfer, though there appears to be an ‘increased confidence’ that an agreement can be reached.
Personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
United have been chasing De Jong for much of the summer and to hear that a deal is close will be a massive lift for Erik ten Hag.
You also have to give credit for United, who have stood firm in the belief they will not overpay for any players this summer. Although it has been frustrating to watch from a fan standpoint, the Reds are looking like getting their man at a very reasonable price.
De Jong was a key part of the FC Barcelona setup last term, though due to their financial issues, the 25-year-old was always deemed as someone who could be sold at the right price.
Thankfully (for United anyway), it looks like they’ve won the race to sign De Jong. He will reunite with Ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams this term.
Hopefully, the minor details can be ironed out pretty quickly, allowing De Jong to get himself comfortable with life in Manchester ahead of our pre-season tour in a couple of weeks.
