Manchester United have failed in an attempt to sign Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain, and have turned their attentions towards AS Monaco’s Fabinho, reports Don Balon (translated by the Daily Star). Apparently, the Red Devils are set to make the Principality club an offer they cannot refuse.
The report reckons that Atletico Madrid saw their £36million move to sign the 23-year-old fail, but somewhere around the £40million mark will be enough to get a deal done. Fabinho is a fan of Jose Mourinho and wants to work with the self-proclaimed Special One. That feeling is thought to be mutual.
Fabinho has apparently been subject to Manchester United interest all transfer window, and up until now, no deal has been completed. However, due to failing in their pursuit of Aurier, a deal may well be back alive.
Presumably, though, Mourinho sees him predominantly as an option at right-back, instead of the holding midfield job that he’s done so wonderfully over the last twelve months.
Without question, it’s his versatility that is the biggest draw and the fact that he can play to an extremely high level in two different positions is only a good thing. Now, it’s down to Manchester United, namely Edward Woodward, to go and seal a deal for Fabinho.
