With Ander Herrera gone and Marouane Fellaini yet to be replaced, there’s a good chance that Manchester United will be signing a midfielder this coming summer.
According to Footballghana.com, a new name has been thrown into the ring. In an exclusive, they’re stating that the Red Devils are ‘ready to trigger’ the £43.5million release clause in Thomas Partey’s contract this summer.
The Ghanaian, 25, has been in excellent form for Atletico Madrid this season, in what has been a breakthrough twelve months for the midfielder.
If United are after someone who can cover every blade of grass for 90 minutes, then Partey is your mine. He’s mobile, tough in the tackle, pretty quick and has a decent passing range on him. For £43.5million, he’s a bit of a bargain.
The Reds won’t have it all their own way, though, with Inter Milan also keen on signing the midfielder. It’s particularly tough given the release clause, so United cannot outbid Inter in that regard; although they could offer Partey extra financial incentives.
This is a deal I’d love to see happen. You look at Manchester City with Fernandinho, Liverpool with Fabinho and even the likes of Leicester City with Wilfried Ndidi. Partey can be our equivalent in that regard and it’d be an excellent start to what is a huge summer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
