Manchester United’s defence has been nothing short of shambolic this season. No doubt that explains why Jose Mourinho was looking to add an experienced centre-half over the summer.
Now, though, it seems as though the club are finally taking note. According to a report from the Evening Standard, translated by the Daily Express, United are ready to break the bank, and smash the transfer world-record for a centre-back, in order to lure Raphael Varane to Old Trafford.
The current record stands at £75million for Virgil van Dijk, but United would have to significantly eclipse that in order to tempt Real Madrid into selling…
Would it be a fantastic signing? Absolutely. Varane is still young at 25, but he has experience beyond his years. The Frenchman is just outstanding and tailor-made for the Premier League.
Whatever the cost, Edward Woodward simply has to go out there and pay it. This is a man who could become a cornerstone of this team for the next half-decade at least, not to mention his leadership that he’d bring to the table.
Perhaps it’s time to get Agent P (Pogba) back on the case, eh?
