Man United remain in the mix to bring Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League.
Amongst all of Manchester United’s problems, you’d imagine the need for a new striker is pretty high on the list. Edinson Cavani has rarely been available this term, while Cristiano Ronaldo cannot do it all on his own at his age.
Last week, none other than ex-Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham was linked with a potential Old Trafford switch. The Englishman is loving life over in Italy, plying his trade from AS Roma.
Now, Italian source, Corriere dello Sport are backing up that earlier claim. They also believe United are keen on signing Abraham.
Apparently, United are ‘ready to launch a large investment’ to bring the 24-year-old striker back to England this summer. United are not alone in that regard, with other unnamed clubs also asking for information on Abraham’s situation.
While reading the piece from CdS, you get the impression that AS Roma would be willing to sell. However, they aren’t letting him leave cheaply. Jose Mourinho also wants to keep Abraham around – at least for another season…
In terms of the fit for United, you get the impression that Abraham would work. After all, he has a pedigree and a history of scoring goals in the Premier League – but he’d need to be in the right system.
For me, it all comes back to hiring a new manager first. Until that’s done, I don’t really see any logic in spending big money on a player who may or may not fit in line with what the new boss wants to achieve.
Abraham isn’t someone who can work in any tactical formation. He needs to be the right fit. I genuinely believe he’d work well with Mauricio Pochettino for example, but say we hire a more defensive-minded coach, I just don’t think it’d be an ideal situation.
