Man United ready to open contract talks with Shaw and Rashford

Contract negotiations for both Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford could get underway shortly.

Manchester United are believed to have all but tied Bruno Fernandes down to a new contract. It goes without saying, the Portugal international deserves this more than anyone.

The club is seemingly working hard behind the scenes to get new deals agreed to, in order to protect player value ahead of the summer transfer window.

With Bruno’s deal almost done, the Red Devils have apparently switched their attention to both Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford. That’s according to ESPN.

Apparently, United are ‘ready to open’ contract talks with the duo, whose current deals both expire in 2023. The club are keen to ‘push ahead’ with these contracts – despite uncertainty over the identity of the club’s next permanent manager.

The duo of Rashford and Shaw are considered ‘important’ members of the squad, hence why the Old Trafford outfit are trying to get these deals done regardless of who will take charge this summer.

As things stand, it’s believed that Rashford is ‘open minded’ about his future and is in no rush to decide his next move. The 24-year-old has struggled badly this term and is keen on winning back his place in the starting line-up for both club and country.

Shaw’s deal is probably more straightforward given he is still a regular starter at the club, though recent comments made to the media certainly frustrated some fans – including myself.

It’s worth noting that United still have the option to extend Shaw’s and Rashford’s contract by a further year due to a clause in their contract, meaning these guys are effectively tied down for another two seasons. Honestly, I don’t see any reason to rush these renewal talks, particularly given the recent form of both.

Are these new deals for Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford a good idea? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
