Man United ready to pay midfielder’s £60m release clause: report

Manchester United need a new central midfielder, perhaps they’ll need more than one should Ander Herrera decide to depart from Old Trafford.

Now, according to Spanish media outlet Marca, translated by The Metro, a new name has been thrown into the ring; Rodrigo Hernandez.

The classy 22-year-old currently plies his trade for Atletico Madrid, with United now in the race to sign the Spaniard, although they’ll face stiff competition for his signature with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all keen.

United’s intentions are quite clear given the fact that they’re apparently willing to pay Rodri’s £60million (€70m) release clause to bring him to Old Trafford when the summer window opens.

For one so young, Rodri’s game is extremely mature and well-rounded. He’d be the perfect player to sit in a midfield alongside Paul Pogba, with Rodri playing deeper, doing the dirty work and setting his side on the attack once again.

Having interest is one thing, but pulling off the signature is another matter entirely. Rodri is rightly attracting interest from Europe’s elite and it’s fair to say United haven’t really given players any reason to move here – unless their motives are purely financial…

It’ll be interesting to see if United can persuade Rodri to choose United red this coming summer, and what a brilliant bit of business it would be.
