Manchester United are ready to pull the plug on any potential move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.
That’s what The Metro write in an exclusive, following comments last week stating that he won’t be sorting out his future before the World Cup. The Old Trafford hierarchy are also concerned that Fred’s head could’ve been turned following interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Fred, 25, has a £53million release clause in his current contract, but the Red Devils have apparently made it clear that they will not hang around for the Brazilian – which could potentially allow PSG to swoop in and sign the midfielder.
This is absolutely the attitude United should have. No player is bigger than the club, and wasting vital time on trying to sign an unattainable player would be nothing but a huge waste of time.
With that said, I still feel like Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring in another top class midfielder. Obviously, we’ve lost Michael Carrick to retirement, and Marouane Fellaini’s future is still up in the air so we’re already looking light in such a key area of the field.
Fred is great and no doubt he’d massively improve our starting line-up and the squad as a whole. I just hope they don’t dilly-dally and miss out on his signature which could well be the case if he has an excellent World Cup.
