Man United are now looking to ramp things up in their pursuit of Nikola Milenkovic.
A central defender feels like Manchester United’s number one aim at the moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are linked with a new name pretty much every couple of days in that position.
However, one name keeps popping up; Nikola Milenkovic. Yesterday, The Sun gave us the latest information on a United move for the Serb in the form of an exclusive.
Apparently, United are ready to ‘step up’ their pursuit of the 23-year-old centre-half, with the Fiorentina man having been on their radar for a ‘number of seasons’ now.
Milenkovic’s current deal expires in 2022, meaning the Serie A side have a pretty big decision to make about his future. Either they cash in now, or risk losing him for free in twelve months’ time.
It’s understood that Fiorentina are going to dig their heels in over a transfer fee, though, with the Italian club demanding at least £38million to let Milenkovic leave. No doubt reported interest from Chelsea will be pleasing to them, as Fiorentina look to drive the price up.
With Eric Bailly always injured and Axel Tuanzebe following a similar path, United’s need for a reliable centre-half is pretty big. Who knows whether Milenkovic will settle or adapt to life in England? However, he’s surely better than the options we currently have back there.
Aged 23, this young man is only going to improve, while you know Solskjaer will be more than willing to give him that time to settle in. Honestly, this seems like a no-brainer to me – and with each passing story, I have increasing faith that this deal may well come to fruition.
