Manchester United could well lose the services of Matteo Darmian, with Napoli making a £16million (€18m) bid for his services; pretty much out of nowhere.
That’s according to Rai Sport’s Ciro Venerato, translated superbly by Sport Witness. Apparently, the club from Naples have tabled an offer that’s about £4million more than Juventus’ latest bid; putting them in pole position to acquire the full-back.
After starting just five Premier League games in 2017/18, it certainly seems as though Darmian is ready to move on from Old Trafford.
At 28, he needs to be playing week-in-week-out club football, and a move back to the Serie A would likely be in his best interests; particularly if he makes the move to one of the big-two Italian sides.
If the Red Devils can make a profit on the £12.7million they paid to sign Darmian, then credit has to go to Edward Woodward; particularly after a poor two years from the former Torino man.
Personally, though, a move away for Darmian simply has to happen. After a promising start, things went downhill pretty rapidly for the right-back, and he certainly needs a new lease of life. A transfer back home would certainly bring that.
