This weekend, Manchester United host the old enemy.
Liverpool visit old Trafford with title hopes, while the Red Devils want to strengthen their hand in pursuit to earn a top-four finish.
The game itself is highly anticipated. The hosts go into it in excellent spirits after beating Chelsea 2-0 on their own patch, while Liverpool were held to a 0-0 goalless draw at home to Bayern Munich.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have a mini injury-crisis on their hands, and one player who missed their midweek game was Dejan Lovren. Now, according to Liverpool’s manager, the Croatia international is a massive doubt to take on United this Sunday…
There was not a real doubt, to be honest,” Klopp said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“It was not mind games but Dejan had no chance for the game today actually, I don’t think he even has a chance for the next game [against Manchester United]. He will take his time.”
With Virgil van Dijk still missing, Fabinho is probably going to continue as a centre-half alongside Joel Matip. With Marcus Rashford’s immense pace, United have a real chance to exploit that and score at least a goal or two to put the pressure on.
I know Lovren gets his critics from time-to-time but he’s actually a pretty decent defender. If he’s missing, Liverpool are lacking that experienced leader back there which could certainly play into our hands.
Let’s hope that we show enough quality in the final third to get a positive result and keep the momentum flowing. Plus, it’s always nice to beat Liverpool under any circumstances, eh Reds?
