Man United have been given an injury lift, with Mason Mount back in first-team training earlier than expected.

Manchester United’s injury issues have been well documented over the last twelve months. The Red Devils have been struggling mightily on that front under Erik ten Hag in general.

The latest first-teamer to fall foul of the injury bug was Mason Mount, who picked up an issue that was expected to keep him out for around five weeks. He picked up the problem in the Brighton game around three weeks ago.

Well, United have received a boost on that front, with the Manchester Evening News confirming that Mount has already made his training comeback. He ‘could return’ to action sooner than expected.

The former Chelsea man is already back in full training, while the MEN believe he could make his on-field comeback this month, which is at least a week or two quicker than everyone assumed.

Mount’s importance to this side was highlighted to me in the Southampton game. United’s pressing game solely depends on the Englishman being fit and available as without him, it’s nowhere near as effective.

It’s a large part of the reason why he was signed by the Old Trafford club and his injury issues have unfortunately meant we’ve barely seen him in action. However, this news that he’s now back out on the pitch is a great boost for the whole club.

I’d assume that tonight’s game against Barnsley will come a little too soon for Mount, though it’d be great if he’s back on the bench for the Crystal Palace game on Saturday.

Suddenly, there’s plenty of competition for places again in midfield, with Kobbie Mainoo, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte all competing for just three positions.
