Man United could have been given a huge lift in their pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.
Manchester United may have already signed one centre-back in the form of Leny Yoro this summer, though Erik ten Hag could still look to bring in another defender this summer.
An injury to the Frenchman, coupled with other inconsistencies in that area of the field, may force the Reds to further dip their toes into the centre-half market.
One man heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch is Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman was the top priority in that area of the field not too long ago.
A few bids were made to sign the Everton man, though Everton swiftly rejected those offers as they were hoping to hold out for £70m. However, the situation has changed.
Football Insider have shared their latest information on that front, outlining a potential boost for the Reds in pursuit of the 22-year-old. According to their latest information, Everton ‘could sell’ the Reds linked defender amid their cash flow issues. On top of that, it may be ‘difficult’ for the Merseyside club to receive their asking price.
Takeover uncertainty could force the Liverpool-based team to part with some key assets in order to stay afloat, with Branthwaite’s name up there with the likes of Domonic Calvert-Lewin as possible sales.
The fact that Everton could be forced into lowering their asking price for Branthwaite may play into United’s hands, though it’d still be tough to get a deal done.
Money is now tight for the Old Trafford side, who are in a situation where they have to sell before they can buy. Even if Everton lower their demands to the £50m mark, is that a sum United could raise? I’m not sure…
This is certainly a potential eye-opener for United, though I still believe it’d be difficult to do a deal for Branthwaite this summer.
