Man United regarded as frontrunners to sign Christian Eriksen

Man United have held substantive talks with Christian Eriksen over a potential switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Erik ten Hag has a whole squad to overhaul, while perhaps there is far too much work to undertake in one transfer window.

With premium players costing an absolute fortune these days, it makes sense for Manchester United’s new manager to weigh up some potential free agents.

One name that has been in the media of late is Christian Eriksen. The Dane enjoyed a stellar second half of the campaign with Brentford following a cardiac arrest last year.

United have been linked with a move to bring in the ex-Spurs playmaker already this window.

Now, the Red Devils are being mentioned in the same breath as Eriksen again. This time it’s from the Northern Echo.

They focus on Newcastle United’s interest in Eriksen, claiming the Magpies are losing the battle to bring in the 30-year-old.

That’s because two other clubs have leapt to the front of the queue; Manchester United and Eriksen’s former employers, Spurs.

Apparently, the Reds and Spurs have held ‘substantive’ talks with the attacking midfielder, while the Reds and Conte’s men are regarded as the ‘favourites’ to complete a deal.

Ten Hag has made a midfield overhaul one of his key priorities this summer and that seemingly starts with a move for Eriksen as Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata all leave on free transfers.

Eriksen has plenty of Premier League experience, natural talent in abundance and a work ethic that’d help him thrive in this energetic Ten Hag system.

The playmaker wouldn’t be expected to start every week, but as a player who could dip in and out of the team when needed. He’d be the perfect squad player, not only to bolster our options but add some much-needed experience.
