After a turbulent eighteen-month spell at Manchester United, I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that I fully expected Alexis Sanchez to be gone from the club already.
Well, we’re now a few weeks into the transfer window and finally it seems as though we have movement (of some sort) in that regard. The report comes from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, who took to YouTube (translated via Sport Witness) to shed some light on a bizarre transfer rumour… (video below).
Apparently, Brazilian club Palmeiras wanted to sign the struggling 30-year-old on a loan deal during this window – as they are looking for a ‘world-class’ striker to join the club.
United rejected the offer, as Palmeiras wanted United to buy the biggest percentage of Sanchez’s eye-watering weekly wages…
First and foremost, this let’s you know how much Sanchez has struggled recently. No big European clubs are seemingly even enquiring about taking the Chile international off our hands.
It all comes back to United’s decision to hand their #7 massive wages. They’ve made their own bed in that regard – and the club could be paying the attacker an extortionate amount until his deal runs out in 2022.
I’m sure that if Palmeiras made a permanent offer to take Sanchez (and pay 100% of his weekly wage) then perhaps a deal would go through. Although I’m not holding my breath and I don’t think he’ll be moving anywhere anytime soon.
