Man United are once again being linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender, Dayot Upamecano.
This isn’t a new name to us United fans. In fact, links to this particular centre-half are only growing. After all, we’re talking about a young man whose stock continues to rise – despite the fact that Dayot Upamecano was absolutely horrendous in a game against the Reds earlier on this season.
Well today, stories claiming United are keen on Upamecano are continuing. This particular rumour comes from SportBild in Germany (Wednesday print edition), translated via the ever-excellent Sport Witness.
Apparently, United are interested in signing the 22-year-old, while it’s claimed they could ‘fix a deal’ as early as January.
It’s actually Bayern Munich who are apparently leading the way to sign Upamecano, but they’re ‘running out of time’ as United (and Liverpool) continue to circle.
Upamecano actually has a £40m release clause which comes into effect next summer, leaving any potential buyer with a decision. Either sign him in January by negotiating a fee with RB Leipzig, or activate the release clause early and agree upon a deal which would see Upamecano make the move next summer.

Could United use Upamecano?
Absolutely they could. United’s defence is still shaky at best. Harry Maguire is about the best of the bunch though whoever is his partner never really seems to impress.
Upamecano would complement Maguire brilliantly, while the young man will only get better as he continues to gain experience.
I guess the clubs who are showing interest in Upamecano tells you everything you need to know about his abilities. I’d like to think United could get a deal done, though I’d be very surprised if we see any real movement on this transfer before next summer.
