Man United are still keen on signing Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer, while the forward could cost around £40m.
While Manchester United’s number one priority right now feels like a new midfielder, the Old Trafford club could also look to bring in another out and out striker.
Just yesterday, we covered a claim which stated Brentford have lowered their asking price for the Englishman to around £50m, with United said to be ready to make a late move for the striker.
Forbes has also provided an update on Toney’s future. Once again, the Reds’ keenness on Tony is backed up, claiming that United ‘remain interested’ in the prolific striker, who is entering into the final year of his contract.
Not too long ago, Toney was valued at £100m by Brentford, though Forbes believe the London club could now do business for as little as £40m, which is a very reasonable fee for a player who guarantees goals.
United know the cost of relying on young, inexperienced strikers. Right now, Rasmus Hojlund is out injured and Joshua Zirkzee is unproven. It’d be a real risk to place the goal-scoring burden on both those guys.
It does feel as though United are now ready to make a real push to sign a striker, with Toney at the front of the queue. However, will the Old Trafford side be able to raise that sort of budget? It’s tricky as they’re in a situation where they have to sell before they can buy.
There can be no doubt that Toney would add an awful lot of quality to this squad, though.
