Man United still hold an interest in signing Kieran Trippier.
There’s no doubting that Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made vast improvements as a player over the last year or so. Our right-back is progressing in an attacking sense, though perhaps he still needs that extra push to take his game to even greater heights.
Just like Alex Telles managed with Luke Shaw, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add competition in another key full-back position. Enter, Kieran Trippier.
According to The Athletic, United are interested in signing the 30-year-old defender, who is just one game away from winning the first major trophy in his career with Atletico Madrid.
Apparently, the former Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur full-back is thinking about a move back to the Premier League this summer, with United thinking about making a bid for Trippier.
With Trippier’s contract expiring in twelve months’ time, Atletico have a decision to make. They either cash in now and get some sort of transfer fee back for the right-sided defender, or risk losing him for nothing in the summer of 2022.
It’s worth noting that Trippier has been brilliant for Atleti. Despite a ten-week ban for breaking betting regulations, the Englishman has been a massive reason as to why the Madrid club are just one win away from sealing the La Liga title.
Bringing someone with his experience into this Manchester United defence would be an astute piece of business. His set-piece delivery, crossing ability and overall leadership would improve this Red Devils squad as soon as Trippier walks through the door. Plus, it’d be interesting to see how that one-on-one battle against Wan-Bissaka would play out…
