Man United interested in Thiago Alcantara’s services: report

Man United moves for Thiago Alcantara seem to crop up every summer. Well, here we are again…

Just under a week or so ago, we covered a story from journalist Richard Marrow, who claimed that a Thiago move for United was ‘more likely than ever’. Since then, things had gone pretty quiet, until last night.

Journalist Constantin Eckner has given his take on the brewing Thiago saga, in response to a fan on social media.

Apparently, United remain ‘interested’ in the ‘services’ of the star 29-year-old, with Bayern Munich expecting an offer from the Red Devils.

Eckner also stresses that Liverpool remain interested in signing the Spaniard, though, at this juncture, they believe he’s too expensive…

This could provide United with an opportunity to swoop in for Thiago and get the deal done. However, I still believe the club only consider the midfielder as a potential option – rather than someone that they simply cannot miss out on.

I say that because look at how quickly a deal for Donny van de Beek was done. Surely, if Solskjaer wanted him badly enough, he’d already be at Carrington training with the rest of the lads…

Should United make their move?

It’s tricky. You’d be mad to doubt the ability of Thiago Alcantara. The question is, does United really need another midfielder?

They’ve signed Van de Beek, while already having the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and several others at the club.

Simply put, we feel United’s priorities should lie elsewhere. A right-winger, a centre-back and maybe even a striker should be atop the wishlist. Another midfielder would be nice, but it has to be classed as a luxury rather than a signing of great importance.

We still think Thiago will end up at Liverpool. However, things can change very quickly within this sport. Let’s wait and see what happens…
