Well, it looked for all the world like Alvaro Morata was going to be Jose Mourinho’s new striker going into the new season. However, out of nowhere, a move for Romelu Lukaku is close to completion after the two clubs have agreed upon a fee for him to leave Everton and join Manchester United.
That has left Morata in limbo somewhat, and according to The Independent, the striker is shocked that the Red Devils have ended their interest in him – opting to sign the Belgian beast instead.
The 24-year-old Spaniard has now been left stranded because he apparently had his heart set on leaving the Santiago Bernabeu and obviously United looked the likely destination.
Now, The Independent adds that the forward is hoping that Chelsea will now make their move for Morata, so that he does get to move away from his current club.
Honestly, Edward Woodward has played an absolute blinder. All the media bought into the hype surrounding Morata, and quite frankly, he sent them on a wild goose chase.
I do feel quite sorry for Madrid’s forward though, because we’ve kind of used him as media bait, and he probably thought that a move to the Theatre of Dreams was likely. To have that ended in such brutal fashion is harsh, but I guess that is the world of football.
