Back in December, Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho and called time on the self-proclaimed Special One’s Old Trafford stint.
The 2018/19 season started horrendously. Results were poor. Performances were worse. Looking back, it was 100% the correct decision to let the ex-Chelsea winner leave the Theatre of Dreams.
Today, United revealed their quarterly figures following Mourinho’s dismissal and it unearthed the true cost of letting him go.
In total, to sack Mourinho and let his staff members leave, it cost United £19.6million. While that figure may seem steep, United now have a huge chance at securing a top four finish – which would more than foot that bill.
The performances since Mourinho left have been damning for United’s former boss. The players had clearly given up playing for him, with Paul Pogba being the prime example.
We’ve made huge strides since and we’re now sitting in the Premier League’s top four – ahead of both Chelsea and Arsenal.
If this form keeps going, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Solskjaer given the job on a permanent basis and it’s hard to argue with that fact at this point in time, despite the loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening.
