Among the next positions of need is the full-back area. I personally believe the left-back slot needs addressing imminently, though today’s rumour suggests a right-back arrival could be on the cards.
It’s Caught Offside with the claim. They believe United have eyes on AS Monaco defender Vanderson, though they’re not alone in that pursuit.
The Red Devils are named as ‘admirers’ of the 23-year-old right-back, along with Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea appear to be the current frontrunners for his signature.
Vanderson dropped some impressive performances for AS Monaco last term, leading to increased interest in his signature.
AS Monaco are often forced into selling their best players, which could play into the hands of the eventual winner of the Vanderson transfer as it could result in a lower cost. Caught Offside state that around £34m would be the higher end of Monaco’s asking price, which feels pretty reasonable.
Would a United move for Vanderson be smart business?
I personally believe a left-back is the top priority, while Vanderson is a right-back by trade. Although there is some workarounds. Both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can play competently in the left-back position, so it may mean some positional switches – but it could work.
I guess it comes down to whether Ten Hag believes there’s a left-back out there and readily available, if not, a move for a right-back is the next best thing.
