Man United scouting Celtic midfielder, Matt O’Riley

Man United have eyes on Celtic midfielder, Matt O’Riley.

Manchester United have always been a club who consistently look towards the future. It’s why young players tend to succeed at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is absolutely someone who helps the next generation develop and grow as footballers. He feels like the perfect fit in terms of both style and longevity.

The club are always scouring the globe for the next emerging superstar, eyeing hundreds of players who could cut it at the highest level.

One man the club are now looking at is Celtic midfielder, Matt O’Riley.

The young Scot only made the move North of the border in January, following an impressive first half of the 2021/22 campaign with MK Dons.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, United are ‘scouting’ the 21-year-old midfielder.

O’Riley cost Celtic just £1.5m in January, with the midfielder now having ‘caught the eye’ of the Reds. Apparently, United are ‘monitoring his development’ in the Scottish Premiership.

Sources indicate that there’s no suggestion of an ‘imminent approach’, meaning its highly unlikely a move will be made during this window.

Rather, this feels like a move United could look to make in the years to come.

Aged just 21, O’Riley has time on his side, while the regular football he is being given at Celtic is only good for his development.

The only downside to waiting is that interest in O’Riley is likely to grow. This young man can play. He was amongst the best in League One before he left MK Dons, while he’s doing just as well over in the SPL.

The longer you leave it, his transfer fee is also going to rise pretty quickly. I would honest like to see United get out in front of this one and make their move during this window, though I appreciate it’s probably a long shot.
