Man United have Porto goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, under consideration as the Rds look for a new number one.
There’s no doubt that slowly but surely, this Manchester United squad will be overhauled. In a few more transfer windows, the situation will look a whole lot different.
The Old Trafford club need to back Erik ten Hag. His summer signings have all been massive upgrades on what was at the club prior to his arrival, though these things take time.
Whether or not United spent in January is another matter entirely, but the boss is already identifying potential signings left, right and centre.
Next in line, seemingly, is a new long-term goalkeeper.
It’s The Athletic with the latest information. They believe that Diogo Costa, who currently plies his trade for Porto, could be the next man up.
According to the report, United are watching the talented 23-year-old keeper, who is viewed as a better fit for Ten Hag’s possession-based style. Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon is another name mentioned.
Although David de Gea has been brilliant for the best part of a decade, you get the feeling his days at United are now numbered. He’s on huge wages, while he’s pretty poor when it comes to distribution.
There’s no doubt that Costa is the current man of the moment following a string of truly unreal performances. He’d absolutely be a step in the right direction, though the Portugal international will not come cheap.
I’d immediately rule out the possibility of Porto letting their star man leave in the January window. At the very earliest, this feels like a move that could potentially happen next summer.
