Man United ‘scrambling’ to get Ralf Rangnick in for Crystal Palace game: report

Man United are still waiting to bring Ralf Rangnick into Manchester…

Well, it wouldn’t be a typical Manchester United deal if everything went swimmingly, would it?

Over the weekend we learned that United’s hopes of having Ralf Rangnick in place for the game against Arsenal were slim.

Well, those hopes have now ended. According to the Daily Mail, Rangnick will not take charge against The Gunners on Thursday night.

On top of that, the club is now ‘scrambling’ to appoint the 63-year-old so he can be in charge against Crystal Palace this Thursday…

The players have apparently been told to not expect Rangnick in until the end of the week at the earliest, with the situation not helped by tightened Covid-19 rules and work permit issues…

Obviously, this is a less than ideal scenario for Rangnick, whose time to work with these players is already limited to six months. The sooner he starts implementing his ideas and tactics, the better it’ll be for all involved.

As of right now, Michael Carrick will continue to remain manager for at least the next game, while several members of the current coaching staff will remain in place after the German’s arrival. It’s thought Rangnick will be able to bring in a ‘limited number’ of his own coaching team.

So when will Rangnick manage his first game?

Well, if he does miss both Arsenal and Palace, we’re looking at Young Boys in the Champions League. There’s every chance this game could be delayed too, with Covid-19 rules meaning this fixture may have to be moved to a different venue or changed to a new date.

If that Young Boys game which is set for December 8th is delayed, then Norwich City away on December 11th could be the first time we see Rangnick in the dugout wearing United colours.

It’s never straightforward for us is it, eh?
