Man United see £80million bid rejected, Mourinho’s hunt for a centre-back continues: report

Manchester United’s search for a new centre-half was clear for all to see over the summer, although Jose Mourinho’s pursuit of a defender eventually came up short.

Now, it looks as though the self-proclaimed Special One hasn’t given up hope. Apparently, the United manager is an admirer of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, although the Red Devils have seen their £80million bid rejected. That’s according to La Repubblica, translated by the Daily Mirror.

For me, Koulibaly would be the ideal candidate. He’s experienced, great in the air, quick and extremely strong. United’s defence needs that vocal leader, the 27-year-old doesn’t shy away when it comes to barking orders at his teammates.

Apparently, Napoli will only entertain offers in excess of £89million, that’s due to the fact that the centre-back only recently signed a deal that could keep him in Naples until 2023, so the ball is firmly in the clubs’ court.

It’s no surprise that several top European clubs are looking at making a move for the Senegalese defender, but as for a January move, I just don’t see it happening. It’s a notoriously difficult time to buy, and the only hope United have is if Napoli doesn’t qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds, but right now, they sit atop of Group C…
