Man United are seemingly eyeing Benoît Badiashile as a player who could bolster their defence ahead of the 2020/21 term.
With Harry Maguire dealing with personal issues following an incident in Greece, United still unconvinced by Victor Lindelof and injury issues plaguing Eric Bailly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a problem on his hands.
The Red Devils have little consistency in that centre-half slot, hence why a move for a new player makes sense. Enter, AS Monaco’s Benoît Badiashile.
According to the usually-reliable Mohamed Bouhafsi, United have seen a £22.4m bid turned down for the £6,500-a-week starlet (H/T Fifa Index).
Apparently, to get a deal done, United have to make an Anthony Martial-like ‘unrefusable’ bid. The 20-time Premier League champions will face competition, mind, with Bayer Leverkusen intending to come back in with another bid for Badiashile.
Who is Man United target Benoît Badiashile?
Born 26th March, 2001, Badiashile has enjoyed a couple of solid seasons with Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco. He’d only play fifteen games in the 2019/20 term, though seemingly, that’s all he needed to impress potential suitors.
Understandably, Monaco would like to keep ahold of their best players. However, as was the case with Martial back in 2015, United made a bid that was just too good to be turned down.
Is Badiashile the right fit at this point in time?
Honestly, I’m not sure. United’s central defenders have been far too inconsistent recently. Badishile is an unknown quantity, who’ll need time to develop and grow.
In an ideal world, United would go out there and sign someone Premier League proven. The problem is, that player doesn’t look to be available at this time…
Badiashile is obviously gifted, though I’m not convinced he could slot right into the starting line-up for the opening-day game against Crystal Palace next month. For that reason, I’d like to see money spent elsewhere at this point in time.
