Man United are named as one of the sides leading the way to sign Vitinha from Porto.
After losing Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, there’s a glaring need to bring in at least one central midfielder this summer. Donny van de Beek will probably take up one of those slots, though another body is still required.
Not too long ago, the Old Trafford club were linked with a move to bring in Vitinha from FC Porto. That story claimed United would activate the release clause within the Portuguese’s contract.
Now, Vitinha’s name is back in the headlines again. It’s Sport Witness with the translation, as they cover claims from both Record and A Bola (Friday print edition).
Apparently, current Porto boss Sérgio Conceição is annoyed with the situation. He believes assurances were given that Vitinha wouldn’t be sold this summer, though the Primeira Liga club are now actively trying to start a bidding war for their key player.
A Bola state that United along with PSG, ‘seem to be ahead’ in pursuit of the 22-year-old midfielder, who has a release clause that stands at £34m (€40m).

There’s no doubt that the need for a top-class defensive midfielder is high atop United’s list of priorities. The Red Devils need that stern figure in there that can help out the back four in a defensive aspect.
United also have a pretty good track record when it comes to buying players from Portugal. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Nani as the main examples of that.
Vitinha would likely need time to settle in, but with a little help from his Portuguese compatriots, this is a signing who could absolutely improve our starting line-up.
