Manchester United had a pretty hectic transfer window in the end, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signing a few players – while clearing some dead-wood from the squad, too…
Just when you thought the window was over, one final sale was pushed through. Celtic have confirmed that they’ve signed defender, Lee O’Connor, from United on a four-year, permanent contract. The move was finalised on transfer deadline day (Monday).
O’Connor made over 20 appearances for United’s U23s team last season, proving his worth playing alongside stars like Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong et al. Now, though, he’s left Old Trafford for good – and it’s probably for the best.
You never really envisaged O’Connor being handed regular minutes at first-team level so it made sense for all involved to let him go while attracting big interest.
Aged just 19, O’Connor has a big future at Parkhead and if he can start well, there’s no reason why he can’t nail down a regular position within Neil Lennon’s team.
Hopefully, he can hit the ground running and make a real name for himself. Who knows, we could well see O’Connor back at United in future. He’s a player who now knows the club inside out – and going forward, that can only serve him well.
Good luck, Lee!
