Man United have sent a scout to watch Benfica forward, Darwin Nunez.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has built this Manchester United squad to win in the here and now. The Old Trafford club are reliant upon two mid-thirty-year-old’s to get them their goals this term – Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.
Those guys aren’t going to be around forever, that much is obvious. The Baby Faced Assassin must have a plan in place for in a couple of years’ time when those guys are no longer around. Enter, Darwin Nunez.
Apparently, United are keeping tabs on the young Uruguayan, who is emerging as an up-and-coming star.
Apparently, United sent their emissaries to Portugal ‘precisely with the mission of spying Nunez’ as Benfica played at the weekend.
Sadly, that scouting mission didn’t go according to plan, with Nunez putting in a disappointing performance as Benfica lost 1-0 at home.
The young man may have struggled this weekend, though his overall form to start the 2021/22 campaign has been nothing short of excellent. So-much-so that he’s now on his way to Uruguay, to link up with Edinson Cavani and the rest of the national team during this international break.
In our opinion, moving for someone of that sort of age makes sense. At the end of the day, United are looking to build a side capable of challenging year-in-year-out and there’s only so much production they’ll get out of Ronaldo and Cavani before they’re deemed too old.
Obviously, this is just the first (of likely many) scouting missions on Nunez. United will want to cover every angle before they even think about picking up the phone to give Benfica a call. So don’t expect anything to happen here until next summer at the very earliest.
