Manchester United are a club known for developing, harnessing and producing top young talent. That mantra will never change.
It seems as though Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing the average age of a rather old squad down at present, with The Metro claiming that the Red Devils had scouts watching West Ham United’s next big thing, Declan Rice.
The youngster, who is out-of-contract in the summer of 2020, has been amongst The Hammers’ best performers this season, but is yet to commit his long-term future to West Ham.
That has led to United, amongst others, showing an interest in signing the 19-year-old, and what an underrated piece of business this would be.
Apparently, the Old Trafford club have been monitoring Rice’s progress all season, with this weekend’s clash between West Ham and Manchester City the first time that United have watched the Englishman play in a high-profile game.
As you’d imagine, City walloped West Ham rather comfortably, but Rice had a solid afternoon. So-much-so that he was even praised by Pep Guardiola following the fixture. No doubt that as we get closer to his contract winding down, more clubs will show an interest, so perhaps it’s an idea for United to make their move for him during the coming summer in a cut-price deal rather than trying to sign him for free twelve months later…
