Man United have had eyes watching AS Roma striker, Tammy Abraham, ahead of a huge summer transfer window.
It’s no secret that going into the summer transfer window, Manchester United’s big need is a new striker.
Anthony Martial has looked good during limited minutes due to injuries. His body cannot be trusted. Cristiano Ronaldo is a thing of the past. Wout Weghorst is nothing but a short-term fix.
Several names have been linked. Harry Kane seems to be atop that wishlist, though negotiating with Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy will not be easy.
Erik ten Hag is doing his due diligence by looking further afield, scouring the continent in order to find someone who can be that 25+ goal-a-season hitman. Apparently, that search has led him to Rome.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (in Italian), with the translation via the BBC gossip column, United sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old English striker in action ahead of the summer window. PSG also had reps in the stadium as Roma drew 1-1 with Milan.
Guess who scored the goal for Roma in the 94th minute? Yep, you guessed it; Abraham.
The ex-Chelsea man is making a real name for himself in the Serie A, proving his credentials as someone who is capable of leading the line for a top team in Europe. The question is, can he make the leap to Old Trafford and become the forward we all need?
I suspect that Abraham would be significantly cheaper than Kane, though for that, you’re getting someone who just isn’t as clinical as the Three Lions captain.
That’s not to say Abraham would be a bad player. You just get the impression that right now, he’s not first choice. He’d still be an upgrade on the current options, but is that enough to turn United into genuine title contenders?
