Man United have eyes on Hammarby midfielder, Williot Swedberg.
There’s no doubt that Manchester United’s squad is going to look very different in a few months’ time. Several players will depart on loan. Others will be sold.
Those gaps will have to be filled by genuine quality if Erik ten Hag is serious about turning this side into one that’s capable of winning trophies. Personally, I’d love to see United go back to their roots – discovering these unknown gems and developing their talent. After all, you look at how well the youth sides are doing right now and you can only be impressed.
Well, it seems as though the powers that be at Old Trafford are still keeping one eye on the future. The latest transfer rumour comes from Expressen, with the translation via Stretty News. They link United with a move for Hammerby midfielder, Williot Swedberg.
Apparently, United have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old wonderkid, who made his debut last July. Swedberg has made thirteen first team appearances since, playing as a central midfielder or out on the wing.
Swedberg is currently under contract until 2024, meaning Allsvenskan Hammarby are certainly under no massive pressure to sell. However, a move to United may be too hard to turn down for Swedberg himself.
What’s interesting about this deal is that Swedberg was all set to move to Lokomotiv Moscow a couple of months ago, in a deal worth less than £5million. However, Hammarby cancelled that transfer after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
This now gives other clubs, like United, a chance to stake their claim to sign Swedberg.
In terms of what he’d offer, I’d imagine the Swede could follow a similar path to Hannibal Mejbri, who was given a year or two at various youth levels before making the jump to join the senior squad.
