Manchester United Football Club have apparently sent scouts to watch 23-year-old right-back, Ricardo Pereira. That’s according to The Sun, as per The Express. The Portuguese defender currently plies his trade for FC Porto, and the Red Devils had eyes upon him during their 1-0 win over Tondela at the weekend.
However, according to the aforementioned report, completing a deal will not be easy as a whole host of clubs have shown an interest. Tottenham also had representatives present, with FC Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich all keeping tabs on the right-back.
Porto have slapped a £20million price tag on Pereira, which in today’s market has to be considered quite cheap.
The list of clubs keen on Pereira tells you everything you need to know about the calibre of player he is. Europe’s elite are all watching his progress, and the fact that he has spent two seasons out in Ligue 1 with Nice, playing regularly, means that he is an experienced young man.
United’s right-back situation is an odd one. Of course, they have Antonio Valencia who is truly incredible. But, outside of the Ecuadorian, options are limited. Jose Mourinho probably sees Pereira as a guy who can come in and give Valencia a break as the games start coming thick and fast.
