Man United are now consistently being talked up with a move to sign Franck Kessie.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a major issue looming overhead – Paul Pogba’s contract situation.
The Frenchman has been in much better form over the last year or so, though he has just over six months left on his current deal. As of January, he’d be free to talk to overseas clubs about signing on a free transfer next summer. Obviously, the Red Devils wouldn’t want that to happen.
However, it’s in United’s best interests to prepare for the worst case scenario. That’s where AC Milan’s Franck Kessie comes in. Over the last week or so, the Old Trafford club have been linked with a move for the midfielder just last week.
Now, Calciomercato, with the translation coming from Sport Witness, have another update for us. Apparently, United are ‘serious’ bout making a move for the classy 24-year-old midfielder, believing he could be an option to replace Pogba.
Obviously, the most attractive part about the Kessie transfer is that he too has a winding down contract. In January, he’d be available in a cut-price deal, or, potentially, could join for free next summer.
The problem is that Kessie and Pogba play in a different manner. They’re not carbon copies of one another and to label him as a direct replacement is pretty lazy on Calciomarcato’s part.
There’s also the issue of competition from other club’s. Milan will probably look for a bidding war to ensue in January in order for them to get the best possible fee if there is simply no hope of keeping Kessie around.
You’d like to think United still have more pull than most clubs, so they should have a decent chance at making the move happen – provided they’re still keen on signing Kessie, of course…
