Man United interest in defender Nikola Milenkovic just isn’t going away…
Just yesterday, we covered a claim from Gazzetta dello Sport, who state that Nikola Milenkovic had his bags packed, with United having a ‘clear advantage’ in the race to acquire the Serb.
Since then, another report from Italy has surfaced. This time it’s from Calciomercato, who sum up the Milenkovic to United rumours in the matter of just one paragraph.
It’s claimed that United are ‘serious’ about signing the 23-year-old. Furthermore, the player is a ‘concrete’ target for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Apparently, contacts with Milenkovic’s agent have already been made, with Fiorentina looking to make €35m (£30m) from the player’s sale. Due to a contract that’s expiring in 2022, you get the feeling this would be a fair fee all-round.
We’ve said it time and time again. United are still desperate to sign another centre-half who they can rely upon. Whether Milenkovic is that player remains to be seen, but Solskjaer needs to bring someone in this summer.
Victor Lindelof is too hit-and-miss, while Eric Bailly simply cannot stay fit. Although both have desirable skills and traits, they’re just too inconsistent.
Harry Maguire is copping plenty of stick for his performances but I still think it’s unfair to judge the Englishman unless he’s given a proper, long-term partner.
Go out there, get Milenkovic and give him a season alongside Maguire to see what they can do as a combination. The last time we had a Serb and an Englishman at the heart of our defence, it worked out pretty well, huh?
Do I think this deal will be done? It’s probably too soon to say but United’s interest certainly feels genuine.
